AI media APIs: image, audio and video unit pricing

Text models have their own comparison (LLM APIs) — here we cover image ($/image), audio ($/min, $/1000 chars), and video APIs ($/second). Hidden costs: quality tiers (same model 5–35× price by quality), credit system minimum top-ups, and subscription plans where unit price only applies at full monthly usage (ElevenLabs).

⚠︎ The bar compares different units — use the type filter

$/image, $/min, and $/s video are not directly comparable — pick a type in the filter so bars compare correctly. Quality tier trap: gpt-image-2 low is $0.006 but high is $0.211 (35×) — test whether the cheaper tier is enough. Credit traps: Runway and Stability sell credits upfront (minimum top-ups); ElevenLabs list price only applies if you use the full monthly quota. Actual billing is often token-based behind per-unit estimates (OpenAI).

How to choose?

Images: FLUX schnell ($0.003) is enough for most uses; Ideogram if images contain text; Recraft for vectors. Speech recognition: Deepgram Nova-3 ($0.0048/min) is cheapest and fastest. Text-to-speech: ElevenLabs leads on quality ($0.10/1k chars); OpenAI TTS is fine for basic use. Video is expensive: 60 s of Sora-2 video = $6 — prototype with short clips and batch runs (−50%).
